Espenschied, Sherwood Glenn "Woody" April 9, 1924 to November 28, 2006 Sherwood died in his home in Punta Gorda, Florida at 5:30 AM. He was the son of Dallas and Beulah Espenschied who lived in Hartville for many years before retiring to Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert and sister Joan Forkum. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou and Randy Jones of Miami; sister-in-law, Mary Espenschied of North Canton; his father's sister, Dorothy Weiss of Stow, MA; and cousins, nephews, nieces and their children. Sherwood graduated from Hartville High School in 1942 and enlisted in the US Navy on November 13, 1942. He trained at the University of Chicago and Bainbridge, WA where he taught communication to the WAVES. A later tour of duty was on Guam with special secret forces and was instrumental in breaking the Japanese code. From high school throughout his entire lifetime he was a short-wave radio-ham, licensed as W8TMP and later licensed as K4CR. He had many friends around the world. Sherwood was an award recognized satellite tracker. He was an early member of the North Canton group working with Mr. Richard Emmons, and the Smithsonian Institute through the Akron Canton Satellite Group. His last years were spent enjoying the wildlife around his home including visits from wild foxes on his porch. Friends may call 2 hours prior to services Saturday 9-11 AM in the Arnold Funeral Home Hartville. Services are Saturday 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Tobin Crenshaw officiating.
