Obituary

Selig (Al) Singer passed away December 24, 2008 at Aultman Hospital. Selig was born February 28, 1918 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Sam and Sarah Singer. He was the oldest of four children and attended St. Paul Central High School and The University of Minnesota. He came to Canton in 1939 to manage a specialty women's store, Bon Marche, married Dorothy Applebaum in 1941, and went into the Army Air Force during WW II serving 5 ½ years as an aerial engineer. He founded a foam rubber fabrication company called Craig Industries and retired in 1990. He never fully retired, inventing and selling until his death at 90. He was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue and Arrowhead County Club for 42 years. He loved golfing and gambling, mingling and joking with people. Survived by his wife of 67 years Dorothy; two children Steven of Canton and Ellen (Michael) Sisterhen of Tucson, AZ; sister Marilyn (Milton) Kaufman of Tucson; brother Federal Judge Bernard (Vivian) Singer of Tampa Bay, FL. Preceded in death by sister Esther Miller. A graveside service will be held Friday 2:00 PM at Canton Hebrew Cemetery with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Staff for their loving care and compassionate service at Aultman Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to Shaaray Torah Synogogue.
