Obituary

Saragale Weinstock, age 84, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on July 28, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Chicago, IL, on October 12, 1939, to Samuel S. Reinglass, a general surgeon, and Celia Greene Reinglass, a nutritionist and artist.

At a young age Saragale and her family moved to Canton, OH, where she created a rich and generous life of loyal friendships, marriage then motherhood, and community service. She graduated from Lehman High School, then attended the University of Michigan for two years, where her passionate loyalty to the Michigan Wolverines developed.  Although she transferred to Indiana University in 1959 and earned a B.S. in Medical Records Management, she would forever be "true blue", never missing a chance to let people know that four generations of her family had attended the University of Michigan. Saragale always wanted to include friends and family in the Michigan fun, and hosted many OSU vs Michigan football parties over the years; even if there wasn't a party, she wore her Michigan attire and had the game on the TV, despite not being particularly committed to learning the regulations or intricacies of football.

Thankfully, she started her career at University Hospitals, where she soon met the love of her life Frank Weinstock M.D., to whom she passed her phone number quickly, so as to not draw attention from her boss. He proposed three months later, and after a brief stay in Washington D.C., where their oldest son Michael (1964) was born, they returned to Canton to grow their family with Jill (1967) and Jeffrey (1971) and where Frank opened Canton Ophthalmology Associates.

The ensuing years overflowed with the types of memories that only later can be understood as the greatest gifts a parent can provide: camping trips, travel, homemade doll outfits, pool days at Skyland Pines, backyard gardens, baking (with Jill, she tried every carrot cake recipe to find the best one), themed costume parties, fun nights with the Skyland Babes & Studs, and so many more. And always, in this busy family life, was beautiful Saragale with her sophisticated sunglasses, impeccable nails, and sense of high-fashion (even while camping).

She was deeply committed to her community as a volunteer and board member for the Domestic Violence Project; every fall she bought Thanksgiving turkeys for the women and families. She was also a member of Temple Sisterhood, a Proud Lion of Judah at the Canton Jewish Federation, and part of the Women's Auxiliary of Aultman Hospital.  She ran the stationary/invitation fundraiser at Temple Israel, and was active in the Phi Delta Epsilon, the Jewish medical society.

She and Frank traveled the world for ophthalmology conferences and pleasure trips with friends and family. In 1975, they first traveled to Israel, and then planned a community B'nai Mitzvah trip for several Canton families in 1977; she was a passionate and proud Zionist, and returned to Israel several more times. In addition to many cruises with all of the children and grandchildren (Cruisin' with Nana & Poppy!) they prioritized their beloved annual trip to the Chautauqua Institution where for over 30 years they, along with their family, attended countless lectures and concerts, but most importantly ate nightly scoops of ice cream together in the plaza.

Saragale was the best Mother, Nana, Wife, and Friend. She modeled loving behavior and an embrace of life for her children and grandchildren, and they will honor her eternally by doing the same, generation to generation, l'dor v'dor.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Frank J Weinstock M.D., her brother James Reinglass M.D., and her beloved grandson Eli David Weinstock.

She is survived by her children Michael (Beth) Weinstock of Columbus, Jill Deutch (Ted) and Jeffrey (Lillian) Weinstock (all of Boca Raton, FL) and her grandchildren Gabby, Serena, Cole, Olivia, Theo, Annie, Ryan, and Kyle.

Donations can be made to BirdieLight (www.birdielight.org), a foundation started in honor of Eli Weinstock to educate young people about the dangers of fentanyl and prevent overdoses, or American Jewish Committee (www.ajc.org).

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Israel in Canton, Ohio and can be streamed at www.templeisraelcanton.org/weinstock.
