Sara Mae Miller passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Saint Joseph Care Center, Louisville, OH at the age of 78.
Born August 17, 1947, to Ervin and Lydia (Raber) Miller, she grew up in the Hartville/Uniontown (OH) area, attending Lake High School and Rosedale Bible School. After completing studies for Licensed Practical Nursing at Mercy School of Nursing, she worked several years at Timken Mercy Medical Center before serving at Red Bird Mission Hospital in Beverly, KY (1975-77). In 1979 she entered voluntary service under Rosedale Mennonite Missions; serving as a rural clinic nurse in Nicaragua (1979-82); and later in Ecuador (1985-86). Upon returning home, she was employed at Hartville Meadows for several years until suffering a major stroke at age 45. She later worked as a caregiver at Shepherd's Gate Assisted Living and lived independently until 2022, when she moved into assisted living.
A lifelong active member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church (Hartville), she shared her gifts through singing, Bible study groups, and volunteering in various ministries. Her strong faith and a heart for serving others opened opportunities for many lasting relationships. She loved life, enjoying lively conversation, traveling, reading, good food, and spending time with a large network of friends and relatives.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Nathan and Norman, three infant siblings, and sister-in-law Valerie Miller. Survivors are two brothers, Morris of Navarre, OH; Lewis (Norma) of Beemer, NE, sister-in-law Denise Miller of Louisville, OH, nine nieces and nephews, and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 2121 Smith Kramer St., Hartville, OH on Saturday, February 7. Calling hours will be from 9:30-11am, with a memorial service at 11am, followed by a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
