Samuel C. Dowell, age 85, of Canton passed away Friday morning after a brief illness. Born in Canton to the late Dr. Glenn and Norma (Ferguson) Dowell. A 1950 graduate of Lehman High School, he attended The Ohio State University and was an Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. Sam was a former employee of Diebold and was involved in real estate. A member of Crossroads United Methodist Church' he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jo (Davis) Dowell; daughter, Kathryn Shainoff (Christopher) of Twinsburg, OH; son, Dr. Stephen Dowell (Jennifer) of Carrollton, OH; five grandchildren, Gabrielle Shainoff, Megan, Sam, Rachel and Jenna Dowell; brother, Dr. Harold Dowell of Naples, FL. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Elizabeth and a brother, Dr. Glenn Dowell, Jr. Funeral service will be Tuesday 1:30 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. with Rev. Edward Fashbaugh officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
