Ruth L. Hart, age 85, of Hartville, died quietly at home Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Born September 25, 1925, she graduated from Salem High School in 1943. She was first employed by the Deming Pump Company. In 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, John, at the Navy Chapel in New York City while he was on leave during WW II. The couple moved to the Hartville area in 1959. Ruth was employed by Lake Local Schools for 20 years as a cafeteria worker. A model of Christian faith and service, Ruth was a longtime member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in North Canton. After her school retirement, she became church custodian, later joined by John when he retired. Through the years she was a teacher, women's group leader, committee member and organizer of countless bereavement dinners. Most recently Ruth worked with the church quilters and baked dozens of cookies for the Ronald McDonald house projects. A 56 year member of Girl Scouts, Ruth belonged to the Order of the Silver Trefoil and was past Day Camp director, neighborhood chair, troop leader and committee member. For her dedication to girls, she was awarded the Appreciation Pin by the local council. Other favorite activities included participation in the Agenda Womens' Club of North Canton and traveling with friends and family. Ruth was preceded in death by a sister, Viola (Shanker) Henry of Florida and infant son, John Roger Hart. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John, daughter Janet "Jan" Hart and sister Naomi (Fidoe) Hart of Salem. A memorial service will be Tuesday June 28,12:00 noon at St Jacob's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Leah K. Schafer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 11:00-12:00. A Lunch will follow the service.
