Ruth G. Friedman, age 90, of Canton, passed away Wednesday evening, November 18, 2009 in Windsor Medical Center. She was born June 25, 1919 in Cleveland to Max and Bessie Garber and has been a resident of Canton for 60 years. Ruth and her husband owned and operated The Sleep Shop in Canton. She was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue, Temple Israel, Hadassah and the Canton Jewish Community Center. She was the founder of Senior Women's Point of View at the Jewish Center, received the Etta Gendler Award, served on the board of the Canton Civic Opera and was an honorary member of the Canton Kiwanis Club. She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1974 and a sister and brother-in-law Zelda and Sidney Spector. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Andi and Tim Everline of Canton, Cheryl and Stephen Shapiro of Wooster; sister and brother-in-law, Eudyce and Dr. Leonard Tucker of Cleveland; grandchildren, Bill, Joshua & Becca, Rachel (Justin), Ryan, Jared and Alex. Funeral Services will be Sunday 2:00 p.m. at Shaaray Torah Synagogue with Rabbi Leah Herz and Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Interment will be in Canton Hebrew Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Andi and Tim Everline's home Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Ruth Garber Friedman Diabetes Research Fund c/o Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital Ins.
