Ronald Skelley

Ronald Lee Skelley, age 76, of North Royalton, passed away peacefully in his home on February 16. He was born in Canton, Ohio, to the late Donald and Jane Skelley.

Ron devoted more than 35 years to a distinguished career in education, shaping the lives of countless students both in the classroom and on the football field. He taught social studies for Parma City Schools, where he also served as head football coach for 16 years, mentoring generations of young athletes with dedication and integrity. He later joined his alma mater, Baldwin-Wallace, as an assistant football coach, concluding his formal career after five impactful seasons. Even in retirement, Ron’s passion for education remained strong, as he supervised field experience students at Ashland University and mentored student teachers at the University of Akron, continuing to guide and inspire future educators.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Thibodeaux Skelley; his step-son, Neil J. Thibodeaux; and his cherished grandchildren, Tay, Gabrielle, and Neil Thibodeaux. He is also survived by his sister, Becky (Dave) Aungst; his nephews, Bryan Aungst and Brandon (Ashley) Aungst; and his great-niece, Ali. He also leaves behind his cats, Abraham and Lincoln, who were faithful companions.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Arnold & Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44709. Burial will follow.

The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to Hospice of the Western Reserve for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Ron’s memory to Baldwin Wallace University or the United Methodist Church of Berea.
