Obituary

Rodney E. Setvin, 55, of Massillon, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. He was born on July 5, 1969, in New Philadelphia, Ohio to his late parents, John Shoemaker and Carol Fisher.

He was a 1988 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and upon graduation, Rodney enlisted and proudly served the United States Army.

Rodney was currently working for World Fuel Services, Corp., the former Lykins, where he has been for several years.

A few of Rodney's favorite things were baseball, fishing and cooking. He was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland INDIANS, always counting down the days to spring training and faithfully watching every game with his buddy Roger.

On warm or cold days, Rodney never missed an opportunity to take his boat out to the lake, referring to it as "His happy place".

Rodney also loved to entertain and cook. There was rarely a time where there wasn't a Saturday or Sunday gathering with one of Rodney's specialties, like his whiskey chicken, jambalaya, ribs, or even a whole hog which was a yearly event.

The start of football season in the fall meant bonfires and The Ohio State Buckeyes usually shown on the outside projector.

All these occasions where countless memories were made took place at his driveway bar known as HL7 or "The Locker".  One thing was certain, Rodney sure knew how to bring everyone together and was the friend who was always there.

Rodney also gained the title "Papaw" to his beloved grandson Nikolai "Nik" and granddaughter Annaline "Peanut" who were the lights of his life.

Rodney leaves behind his loving wife of 15 years, Corri Setvin; mother-in-law Beverly Bailey; children, Brenton, Victoria, and Justin; siblings John (Annette) Setvin, Scott (Becky) Shoemaker, Traci (Dan) Newsome, and Crystal (George) Kerns; longtime best friend, Chuck Adams; numerous nieces and nephews; and his favorite neighbors on Lori and Terri Ave.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 2nd from 5-7 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave. N, Canton, Ohio, 44714.

Military honors will be rendered promptly at 7:15 p.m.
