Robert M. Shuster, age 91, formerly of North Canton, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 in Green Meadows Health & Wellness Center, Louisville, OH. Born Dec. 2, 1924 & raised in Columbus, Ohio, "Bob" was pre-deceased by his parents Orra Fern (Swan) & Mathias Henry Shuster, his beloved wife Olivene J. (Armour), brother Philip Shuster and sister Marjorie Wheeler. Survived by children Lee K. (Linda) Shuster, Carol S. (Gary) Swartz, Kimberly G. (Maus) Weaver, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Graduating from Worthington High School, his Chemical Engineering degree from Ohio State University was interrupted by World War II service in the Army Air Corps, serving primarily in Kansas and overseas on Saipan with ground crews on B-29 aircraft. Returning stateside and reuniting with Olivene, they were married in Salina, Kansas on September 11, 1948. A career in asphalt sales began with Ashland Oil in Ashland, KY. Based in Canton, Ohio from 1959 to his retirement in 1982, he supervised the building of cationic emulsion plants throughout the Midwest and Northeastern US. Choosing North Canton as home, he & Olivene were lifelong members of Faith United Methodist Church. Bob was a charter member of the North Canton Wm. H Hoover Masonic Lodge #770 F&AM being a 33rd Degree Mason/Scottish Rite, a member of the Ohio Professional Engineers actively participating in other national associations pertaining to Asphalt, and was also a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors. He enjoyed music and played the trombone until just recently. He embraced history, especially in the areas of genealogy, transportation & local history often giving talks on the Dueber Hampden Watch Co. and on President Wm. McKinley. Volunteering for many years with AARP, he helped prepare hundreds of tax returns in Stark County. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. David Kowaleski officiating. Interment will be private for the family. A Masonic service will be held at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W., friends may call 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Memorial Fund, The National Parkinson Foundation, Crossroads Hospice or a charity of your choosing.
