Robert D. Shatzer, age 89, of Canton Christian Home, formerly of North Canton, passed away Sunday August 24, 2014. He was born in Canton on March 5, 1925 to the late Ralph and Margaret (Correll) Shatzer. He graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1943 and served in the Army from Oct.1943 -March 1946. He fought in the South Pacific, participated in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa, as well as the occupation of Korea. He worked in the accounting department of the Timken Company for 39 years retiring in 1982. After retirement, he volunteered for Aultman Hospital, and as a driver for Meals on Wheels and American Red Cross. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Doris Ann (Cline); son and daughter-in-law David and Judy Shatzer of Dallas, TX; daughter Susan Rosendahl of Erie, PA; grandchildren Kyle and Emily Shatzer, Marc and Kailey Shatzer, Jerad and Jodi Rosendahl, Gregory Rosendahl, and Daniel Rosendahl; great-grandchildren John Michael Shatzer, Addison, Brady and Reese Rosendahl; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother Donald Shatzer, sister Miriam Klee and son-in-law Rev. Stephen Rosendahl. He was a longtime member of the Community Christian Church in North Canton where he served as an usher and driver for many years. He was a former member of American Legion, North Canton Elks and the North Canton Hoover Sideliners. Calling hours are Tuesday (Today) 4-7 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Canton. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 AM at Community Christian Church with Rev Sarah Taylor Peck officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
