Robert J. Rowlands, age 80, of North Canton died Tuesday in the Canton Christian Home after an extended illness. Born in Sharon, PA in 1925 to the late Joseph and Nora Rowlands, he had resided here most of his life. Robert (Bud) attended Westminster College and received his engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University. Bud served proudly in the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II. He then enjoyed a distinguished career as a Mechanical Engineer with the Timken Co, retiring in 1983 after 33 years of service. Following his retirement Bud traveled extensively with his father, became an avid gardener, bird watcher, and loved sports and golfing. He was the patriarch of a large extended family, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He supported his children in their personal endeavors and encouraged and nurtured their dreams. He loved having his family together at his home, where he passed along a love of science, a sense of the awe of discovery, as well as respect for nature. He was always ready in his chair, pipe nearby, to dispense no-nonsense wisdom and to inspire and challenge his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his great strength in the face of adversity and his sense of humor and happiness. All those who knew Bud knew what a beautiful soul he was. He touched everyone with his love. Let your memories live on in your hearts and know that love is eternal. In addition to his parents Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Rowlands. Survivors include his sons: Kip and Kim Rowlands; daughters: Heather Miller and Holly Arnold: grandchildren: Timothy and Jason Rowlands; Michael and Jesse Martsrell; Max Miller; Richard, Andrew, and Chelsea Arnold; devoted friend Ilene Hall, and Norma's children: Lori Cross, Amy Stiles, Tom Atkins and Sally Truesdale.
