Robert M. Hunter, age 96, formerly of Canton, peacefully passed away on May 6, 2018, in Troy, Ohio. Robert was born on December 15, 1921, in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Robert and Florence (Moore) Hunter. He was married to his wife of 53 years: Maxine (Evans) "Mickey", who preceded him in death, January 1, 1999.
Robert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lynn (Cotton) Hunter of Coto de Caza, California; daughter, Jane Hunter Rudy of Troy, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Susan (Minturn) Hunter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; grandchildren, Melissa Kamps of Tampa, Florida, Evan Rudy and Anna (Rudy) Ruflin of Chicago, IL, Sydney (Hunter) Randall of San Jose, California, Robert Hunter of Newport Beach, California, James and Hannah Hunter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and 5 great grandchildren.
Robert attended Miami University (of Ohio) before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was a First Lieutenant serving his country in Northern Africa and Italy. He received the Silver Star for Valor and the Purple Heart. Robert spent his working career at Pactiv, before retiring and spending winters in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. He and his wife were avid golfers spending many wonderful days together at Shady Hollow Country Club, Isla del Sol and later Oakwood Country Club. Robert and Mickey were charter members of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where he served as Elder for years. He was also an active Mason. Robert will be most remembered for his incredible positive good nature, his sense of humor and his quick wit. He was so admired by his family and will be greatly missed.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. N.W. with Rev. Dr. Barbara Johnson officiating. Entombment will be in North Lawn Mausoleum.
