Robert V. Dettinger, age 85, of Canton, passed away Monday evening, July 21, 2014 in Canton. He was born November 22, 1928 in Canton to Ivan and Elva (Little) Dettinger. Robert attended Canton South High School. He worked for Portec for 30 years and Nickles Bakery. He was a member of Howenstein Christian Church, past member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles and was an avid bowler. He is survived by his sweetheart and wonderful wife of 58 years, Marie; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Joe Porto of Estill Springs, Tennessee, Cindy and Steve Bacon of North Canton, Linda and Doug Muir of Sandy Valley; sisters, Dorothy Meilinger of Massillon, Mary Safreed of Venice, Florida; grandchildren, Anna Marie and Joseph Porto, Taylor and Abbey Bacon, Scott and Brandon Muir; great-grandchildren Addison and Jordyn Muir. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Saturday 12:00 noon at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
