Richard C. Zollinger, Sr., age 64, of Hartville, passed away in his home on March 30, 2016. He was born August 20, 1951 in Canton to Frederick and Ruth (Ratcliffe) Zollinger, both of whom preceded him in death. Richard graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. in Geology and was a Field Geologist in the Western and North Eastern United States. He was a past member of Congress Lake Club and especially enjoyed sailing, rowing, tennis and nature walking. More than anything, he adored his family and grandchildren. He had lived in Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, and Maine during his life but enjoyed most the comfort of living near his boyhood home in Hartville, Ohio. He was an avid art, literature, and music aficionado. He dabbled with his acoustic guitar since he was a teenager and will always be cherished for the lullabies he sang to his children when they were young. He took great pride in his gardens and using produce from them to create meals from scratch for his wife and family. Most recently one of his greatest joys was seeing his granddaughter dance in the Canton Ballet. He lived a full and passionate life. He was a wonderful storyteller and he lived many adventures. He will be forever loved and missed. He is survived by his loving wife Susan (Heald) Zollinger with whom he celebrated 25 years of marriage on March 10, 2016; son, R. Clint (Robin) Zollinger, Jr. of North Canton; daughter, Katherine (Christian) Banks of Chicago; brothers, Frederick H. (Roberta) Zollinger, Jr. of North Canton and William R. (Janet) Zollinger III of Chagrin Falls; grandchildren, Caroline Zollinger, William Zollinger IV and Jay Banks; brothers-in-law David Heald and Timothy Heald; sister-in-law Jane Adolf; and many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial service will be held.
