Richard K. Yant, born September 22, 1934 in Canton, Ohio, passed away April 14th with his family at his side during their winter stay on Marco Island, Florida. On July 17, 1995 Dick received a heart transplant that allowed him to enjoy seven grandchildren, his 50th wedding anniversary, family celebrations and holidays spent together. His parents were Karl and Marion Yant, both of Canton. Dick was a graduate of Lehman High School ('52) and Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio ('56). In his 37 years with The Timken Company, Dick held various positions, retiring as the Global Operations Manager. Dick was a past member of the City Council of Canton, a Paul Harris Fellow within the Canton Rotary Club as he was an active Rotarian and Benefactor. A long-time board member of Boys Village and Goodwill Industries of Canton, and Executive Vice President of the Canton Jaycees, He was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, a past Advisor in the Junior Achievement program, and a Division Chairman for the United Way of Stark County. Dick also was a member of the Y.M.C.A. He holds an honorary lifetime membership in the Junior Chamber International and was a past recipient of the "Outstanding Young Men of America". Dick was a very loving, caring husband and father. He lived for his family and enjoyed the times he spent coaching his sons both in sports and life. He was very proud of his darling daughter who made everyday a joy to him. Family vacations were fun....What great memories we have. He was an avid fisherman, taking trips to Canada to catch the big one! He was a proud grandfather of 6 grandsons and 1 beautiful granddaughter. Dick enjoyed the days of playing golf with his many friends and meeting for lunch with his high school buddies. Above all else, he was devoted to his wife of 54 years who was the love of his life. His passion for life and his selfless acts helped inspire both family and others he touched. Dick is survived by his high school sweetheart, June A (Sakel) Yant, whom he married in 1956. He is also survived by four children; Stephen R. Yant and wife Michele and sons Blake and Jared of Charlotte, NC; David and Kathy Yant and sons Kyle and Corey of Dublin, OH; Richard and Debbie Yant and sons Garrett and Riley and daughter Bailey Conner of Powell, OH; Cynthia DeLay of Raleigh, NC. Dick is also survived by his sister Patricia Seiple and brothers-in-law Richard Seiple of Canton and William Sakel of Dublin, Ohio. Funeral service will be Friday, April 23rd at 11:00am in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. with Rev. C. David Morgan officiating. A private interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
