Obituary

Richard Paul Seiple, age 85, born in Canton, Ohio, December 19, 1931, the son of Paul and Vera (Ferrell) Seiple. A 1950 graduate of Lehman High School and attended Ohio University where he played basketball, he received all-city and all county honors while at Lehman. At Ohio University he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served in the Army, 82nd Airborne Division from 1953 to 1955. Dick was employed for 45 years, working for his uncle, Robert Seiple, owner and founder of Seiple Lithograph Company. He had various sales positions, the last being Vice President of Sales retiring in December, 1999. Dick was deeply involved in the Canton Community in numerous volunteer capacities. He served the United Way in various roles. He was a member of Canton Jaycees where he served as Chairman of the Olympic Exhibition Basketball Game in 1960, in Canton, OH where he raised thousands of dollars for the United States Olympic Fund. He then served as Vice President and President of the Canton Jaycees in 1962-63 when they were selected as the Outstanding chapter in Ohio and the number two chapter in the United States. He was later honored by being presented a JCI Senatorship. He served on the steering committee for the Pro-Football Hall of Fame and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors after which he was Chairman of the Game Committee for almost a decade. Dick was an active athlete in local amateur sports such as basketball, fumble ball and slow-pitch, winning many championships and was honored by being selected in their sports Hall of Fames. Dick also served as the Commissioner in Stark County for the Lake Erie District AAU, covering the sports of Boxing, Track and Field, Swimming, Basketball and Volleyball. He also coached and played volleyball for the Canton YMCA, played in the Canton Class A League, winning numerous championships for John's Bar. Above all else in 1958, after returning from the Army, he married Patricia Ann Yant, his wife of 59 years. He is also survived by three children: Susan Jeffers of Canton, Samuel Seiple (Jolinda) of Massillon, Sherry Seiple of Valrico, FL; grandchildren, Brandon and Sean Jeffers of Canton, Christine Seiple of Redding, CA, Nekolai Seiple of Valrico, FL. Dick is also survived by his sister, Joan Gothat of Youngstown, OH. Per Dick's wishes a private graveside service for family and close friends will be Friday 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Terry Livengood officiating.
