Obituary

Richard C. Lutz, Ph. D., Professor Emeritus, The University of Akron, age 79, of Canton, passed away Thursday March 18, 2010 peacefully at home. He was born in Chicago, IL on August 28, 1930 to the late Charles and Frieda (Schaffenberger) Lutz and after high school graduation served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Illinois University where he met his future wife, Sandra Waugh. After teaching at Southern Illinois University, University of Iowa and Northern Illinois University, Professor Lutz earned his doctorate from Texas Tech University. In 1973, he accepted a position in the management department of the College of Business at The University of Akron, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Academy of Management and was an accredited Personnel Diplomate. Richard found great pleasure in fishing at Leesville Lake and was an accomplished woodworker. Survived by his wife Sandy of 51 years; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Rick Blackburn and granddaughter Isabelle of North Canton; sister Marjorie Lutz Treen and nieces JoAnne (Gary) Herrenbruck and Susan (Edward) Neve all of IN; cousin Gilbert (Jan) Palmer of Florida as well as other relatives and friends. Calling hours are Sunday 4-7 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Canton. A Memorial Service will be Monday 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Richards officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
