Obituary

Richard H. "Dick" Luke, age 88, of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Canton, passed away early Sunday morning in his residence. Born in Canton to the late Leroy and Mary (Brady) Luke, Dick was a 1942 graduate of McKinley High School, a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corp, serving in the European Theater as a Tail Gunner B24, Bombing Squad 105, he was Awarded Air Medal in July 1945, and received a Gold Star in lieu of second Air Medal January 2, 1948. Dick received his BS in Business Administration from Kent State University in 1952. He retired from the Hoover Company as a Methods Engineer in the Industrial Engineering Department. A parishioner of St. Paul's Catholic Church of North Canton for over fifty years he was also a member of ECOPA (East Central Ohio Pilots Association). Dick was an avid single engine private airplane pilot of more than 35 years. One of his favorite things to do was give people their very first ride in an airplane, some of which were inspired later to obtain their own private pilots license. Survivors include his wife of sixty four years, Florence. Daughter: Karen (John) Roth. Two sons: David (Sheila) Luke & Brian (Rebecca) Luke. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Funeral service will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. James A. Clarke officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW.
