Obituary

Richard L. Barnard, age 84, of Canton died Saturday in the Canton Christian Home after a short illness. Dick was born in Alliance to the late John and Hilda (Bernhard) Barnard. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Kent State University. Dick was the Director of Christian Education for 41 years at Christ Presbyterian Church and the founding Director of Camp Wakonda. Dick was inducted into the 2003 Stark County Wall of Fame as one of our Greatest Sons, and in 2011 he received the Distinguished Community Service Award from Walsh University. Dick was a mentor and a friend to generations in the way of Christ. In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by his brother Jack Barnard. He is survived by a brother Robert E. Barnard of Canton and countless friends who became his family. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13th 2012 in Christ Presbyterian Church followed by a fellowship reception. Thursday, September 20th a graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. in West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Dick Barnard Memorial Fund, Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St. W. Canton, OH 44702 to honor his interest and further his life work. Dick was a man who lived Micah 6:8 "He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
