Raymond Wilkof 88, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died on October 8, 2014. He founded Stark Industrial LLC in 1959 and watched it grow to a three-generation manufacturing company. Active in civic affairs, the Canton Jewish Community and an avid power-boater, Ray enjoyed life to its fullest with his wife, Rossetta by his side. Son of Samuel and Elsie Wilkof, Raymond married Rossetta Alpiner in 1945 in Canton where they raised three children, Jeffrey (Cindi)of Canton , Marcia of Philadelphia, and Sam (Susan) of Canton, all who survive. He was especially proud of his three grandsons, Jonathan (Kristin), Michael, and Evan (Kaylee) Wilkof and grandchildren Heather and Jason Lutton, and great-grandchildren Teva and Noam Wilkof and Cailee and Jay Lutton Jr. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Raymond is survived by his sister, Estelle (Wilkof) Blau, and many nieces and nephews. Sister Florence (Wilkof) Winston preceded him in death. Ray graduated from Lehman High School in 1944 and served in WWII at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He then went on to found Stark Industrial Supply which distributed cutting tools to manufacturing facilities around the country. The company grew under Ray's leadership and continued to expand when his son Sam and then his grandson Jonathan joined him in business. The three enjoyed working together, each bringing different skills and perspectives that contributed to the company's development. Raymond valued the friendships he established over the years through his work with many companies, like the Timken Company. Devoted to his community as well, Ray served on the board of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, was active in The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, serving as president, The Boy Scouts as a troop leader, and as a member of the Vocational Committee of the Canton City Schools. He was Commodore of the Gravel Bar Yacht Club at Marblehead, Ohio where he and Rossetta spent many summers boating on Lake Erie. Also devoted to the Canton Jewish Community, Ray was a past president and board chair of Shaaray Torah Synagogue, board member of the Canton Jewish Community Federation, and active at the Canton Jewish Community Center. His 55 years as a business leader were recognized through the Canton City Schools Division of Vocational & Career Education Award of Recognition in 1986, the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce's first SCOPE Award 1999, the Timken 50 Year Service & Innovation Award in 2009, the Lehman High School Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009, and the Chamber of Commerce Award of Appreciation in 2011. He was also the recipient of the Canton Jewish Community Center's Hy Ginsburg Athletic Award. The funeral will be held on Monday, October 13th, at 11:00 AM, at Shaaray Torah Synagogue 432-30th St NW, Canton. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Shaaray Torah on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM. Arnold Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Shaaray Torah Synagogue. May his memory be for a blessing. (Arnold 330-456-7291) www.arnoldfuneralhome.com
