Ralph W. Russell, age 93, of North Canton died Wednesday in Aultman Hospital. Mr. Russell was born December 1, 1912 in Washington, PA. At the age of 15 he started working at a local theatre that was later taken over by Warner Brothers. He continued following high school graduation moving along in the business to assistant manager and later becoming manager. In 1938 Ralph was offered and accepted the manager's position at the Palace Theatre here in Canton. With the outbreak of WW War II he enlisted into the U.S. Navy where four years later aboard an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific the war ended. While serving in the military he met Miss Dorothy Perkins and was married in Kansas City, MO in 1946. They set up housekeeping in Canton and Ralph resumed employment at the Palace Theatre. He formed and was president of the operating company that turned out to be the last of five different original owners of the Palace over its fifty year history as a private enterprise business. (1926-1976) Ralph was a long time member of local organizations including Christ Presbyterian Church, Canton Rotary Club, Masonic Bodies, Ohio and National trade associations. Mr. Russell is survived by his wife of 60 years: Dorothy F. Russell of the residence. Son and daughter-in-law: Neil B. and Sandi (Ricketts) Russell of Irvine, CA. Daughter and son-in-law: Marsha S. Russell and O. Lee Tawes, III of Bedford Hills, NY. 2 grandsons: Andrew N. Russell of New York, NY and Trevor J. Russell of Oxford, MS. In keeping with Mr. Russell's wishes a private entombment was in North Lawn Mausoleum with Rev. Wendy L. Bausman officiating.
