Obituary

Phyllis Elisabeth Witter, age 92 of Canton, passed away Friday night September 14, 2007 in the comfort of her daughter's home with her daughter and son by her side. She was born in Canton on October 17, 1914 to the late Phillip G. and Lillian I. Grimpe and graduated from McKinley High School in 1932. She played piano in the Timken Hour receiving First Place on the Air and Second Place in the Studio in 1938. Prior to her marriage to Clifford Edward Wilson, she had worked for the Timken Company. Upon his death in 1950, she went to work for P C Rowland Insurance Agency. She married Dwain H. Witter in 1953; they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2006. Phyllis was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Alliance where she was the organist, served as First and Second Reader, Sunday school teacher and treasurer, a member of The Mother Church in Boston, Massachusetts and attended the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Canton. Phyllis was a member of the Indian Run Square Dance Club in the 1950's, an Avon Representative and a member of the Homeworth Garden Club. She is survived by her daughter ElisaBeth Durbin of Canton; son Clifford Wilson and partner James Watson of Cleveland; grandchildren, Debbie and Ed DeStephen of Canal Fulton, Mike and Terri Durbin of Canton; great-grandchildren, Ben and Kate DeStephen of Uniontown, Matt DeStephen of Canal Fulton, Cory, Ryan and Sara Durbin of Canton. Preceded in death by infant twin sister, Madelyn and brother Gilbert and his wife Mabel Grimpe; and son-in-law, Gene Durbin. Friends may call Sunday (TODAY) 2-3:30 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home Canton and Monday prior to services 1-1:30 PM. Funeral services will be Monday 1:30 in the funeral home with First Reader Richard Cook and Dr. Rev. William Watt officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
