Paula W. Wise, age 90, of North Canton, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015. She was born July 26, 1924 in Canton, Ohio to Silas and Gladys Matilda Wheeler and was a lifetime resident of Stark County. Paula was a 1942 Lehman High School graduate, after which she graduated from the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She then worked as a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic while her husband, Reuben Z. Wise, Jr. served in World War II. Upon the birth of her two children, she volunteered with the American Red Cross as a chairman of the Nursing Committee, Staff Aides Committee, and the Disaster Services Committee. She was honored for her over 5400 hours of volunteer service for Canton Fine Arts, where she served as chairman of the Canton Christkindl fundraiser and as a member of the Woman's Committee for the Canton Civic Opera. Paula volunteered at the Canton Players Guild where she chaired the box office for thirty years and served as house manager, a member of the Play Reading Selection Committee, an usher, a member of the Woman's Committee, and treasurer. She also volunteered for the United Way and was a board member of the YWCA. In recognition for her service to the community, she received the Canton's Junior League's President's Award in 1984. She was an avid member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter AC. She was a devoted member and contributed to the Canton Woman's Club in all aspects, including ways and means, social, membership, and finance. Even when no longer able to attend meetings, she continued to prepare the monthly newsletter for the Woman's Club and Lehman Alumni Class of 1942 Address Book from her home. Paula was a life-long member of First Christian Church where she volunteered her time working in the nursery, as a church librarian, and as an aide to the staff financial secretary. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Judge Reuben Z. Wise Jr. in 1985, and her daughter Peggy Jo Huthmacher in 2008. Survivors include her son Judge John W. Wise and daughter-in-law Kathy of North Canton and their two children Lindsy R. Argenti (Adam) and Jonathan G. Wise. Other survivors include grandson David B. Huthmacher (Bari) and granddaughter Ashley A. Huthmacher, as well as great-grandchildren Giada Argenti, Carly and Coen Huthmacher, Cooper and Parker Rouech, and Alden Smith. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie O'Donnell (Jack) of Florida. Calling hours are Thursday 4-6 PM and Friday an hour prior to services from 1-2 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Canton. Funeral services begin at 2 PM with Pastor Jeff Bullock officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to P.E.O.
