IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paula Janet
Cable
February 7, 1923 – July 2, 2011
Paula Janet Vandervort Cable passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2011, finally reaching the end of her courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Janet was born in Chicago on February 7, 1923 to Grace and Paul Vandervort. After living in Cleveland, Ohio for a short time, Janet and her parents, along with her younger brother Robert, moved to Canton, Ohio, where her father worked for the Canton Corrugated Box Company. During WW II Janet served as a volunteer for the Red Cross after her graduation from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She continued her volunteer work for a number of organizations throughout her lifetime, including the Canton Art Institute, and was a member of the Canton Junior League. Janet married John Arthur Cable on September 9, 1950, with the two recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Janet, a passionate lover of American History and world travel, never met a stranger and was a joyful and friendly spirit who encouraged untold creative and fearless endeavors, often leading the way. Though Alzheimer's robbed her of her memories, she continued to share her loving, beautiful smile, extending all the way to her twinkling blue eyes, with everyone. A long-time resident of Canton, Ohio, Janet also lived in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands and Naples, Florida. In 2005 John and Janet moved to the Richmond, Virginia area. Janet is predeceased by her parents Grace and Paul and her brother Robert. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Jennifer Cable and her husband David Lingerfelt of Richmond, Virginia, and son Philip Cable, of Chicago, Illinois. Grandchildren are Grace and Anna Cable, of Chicago. Also, niece Nancy Cable, of Lewiston, Maine, nephew Davis Cable of Charlotte, North Carolina and sister-in-law Jane Cable of Naples. Family will be gathering for visiting at Arnold Funeral Home Monday at 12:15 PM. All are welcome. Departure procession to the cemetery will be at 12:45. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Monday, July 11th, beginning at 1PM with Rev. Barbara Bond officiating. John, Jennifer and Philip extend heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful caregivers who surrounded Janet with love and care from the moment they met her; we also wish to thank the Bon Secours Hospice team for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to your favorite charity in Janet's memory. The strife is o'er, the battle done; the victory of life is won; the song of triumph has begun: Alleluia!
