Obituary

Paul Hanft, age 91, of Hartville, died on Wednesday September 11, 2013. He was born August 7, 1922 in Garrett County, Maryland to the late William and Lena (Weber) Hanft. Paul moved to Ohio at age 18, and worked at the Monarch/ Teledyne Rubber Company and retired after 44 years of service. He served in the Army during WW II achieving the rank of Captain. He was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and was a member of East Nimishillen and Hartville Churches of the Brethren, and most recently Center Church of the Brethren. He was an active churchman throughout his life. Paul served as an advisor in Junior Achievement and 4-H Clubs. He enjoyed participating in several square dancing clubs. He was preceded in death by his first wife Blanche (Shoemaker) Hanft in 1995; infant son Kenneth Lee; sister Alberta Hanft; and brother Homer Hanft. He is survived by his second wife Kathryn Lavy Hanft of Louisville; son Ronald Hanft of West Stockbridge, Massachusetts; step children Norman Lavy of Massillon, Fred (Cheryl) Lavy of Virginia, Beth Lavy Julian of Canton and Neil Lavy of Canton; sister Dorothy Resh of Accident, Maryland; brother Allen (Joan) Hanft of North Canton; and step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Sunday 5-8 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Hartville. Funeral services will be Monday 2:00 PM at East Nimishillen Church with Pastor Paul Bozman officiating. Final viewing will be Monday in the church 1-2:00 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A reception follows at East Nimishillen Church.
