Patricia Ann (Evans) Bartchy, Age 85 of Canton, Ohio passed away Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12, 2013. A daughter of the late Elmer J. and Jean W. Evans, she was born in Wellsville, Ohio where she graduated from Wellsville High School and later Bowling Green State University. Her career as a teacher started at Lehman High School teaching French where she met her future step-son, Scott Bartchy, he noting her as his favorite teacher. She retired to raise all of her step children later returning to the classroom to teach music in the Canton City School System. Patricia was a talented vocalist and musician singing with the Robert Shaw Chorale and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus along with her late husband Jacques. Along with her husband, she was a part of the Cantoral quartet singing at Temple Israel for over 25 years. She and her late husband also sang professionally with many church choirs and with the Canton Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She was also a talented organist playing in many churches in the greater Canton area. She was a member of the American Organ Guild, President of the McDowell Club, and an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Jean Evans, her husband Jacques R. Bartchy as well as her step daughter, Cynthia A. Hecht. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Ballard (Phil), and her step children Dr. S. Scott Bartchy (Nancy Breuer), step-son-in-law Robert W. Hecht, step-son Jan R. Bartchy (Barbara), step-daughter Janet B. Peckinpaugh (Philip E.) and step-grandchildren, Michael F. Hecht (Denise), DeeDee Hewit (Paul), Ashleigh E. Carr (Mark), Beth Bartchy-Smith (Garry), Christopher W. Bartchy (Ilka), and June Geary (Todd). Pat has also been blessed with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her music and her spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her and worked with her. It was a blessing that she came into the lives of her step-children. Her love and commitment will always be appreciated and for which they are most grateful. We wish to extend our gratitude to the loving and expert care she received at the Canton Christian Home. Patricia spoke fondly of everyone involved with her care. Funeral Service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW with the Rev. Dr. Scott Bartchy officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private in North Lawn Cemetery. Please sign the guest book.
