Ottis Allen, age 82, formerly of Hartville and more recently of Akron, passed away Saturday evening, December 16, 2006 in Akron City Hospital. He was born April 20, 1924 in Jackson County, TN to the late James and Rebecca (McHaney) Allen. Ottis moved to Ohio in 1948 and worked for Teledyne Monarch, retiring in 1985 after 36 years of service. Mr. Allen was a WWII Army Veteran and was an avid athlete and sports fan. He coached and umpired little league baseball and coached the Monarch girl's softball teams. For many years Ottis worked the "chain gang" for Lake High School Football. Mr. Allen raised a family of athletes including his grandchildren who he helped coach and took great pride in attending most of their games. He was an accomplished gardner, was meticulous in caring for his lawn and enjoyed bowling. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Tonia and Charles Beckwith of Akron; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Stephanie Allen of Hartville; five grandchildren, Allen and Rebecca Beckwith, Lauren ,Ryann and Meghan Allen; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. in the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville with Dean Miller officiating. Interment in Mount Peace Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday 10-11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
