Ord O. Ely age 88, of Uniontown, Ohio, and formerly of Dale City, Va., passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015. He was born in Sidney, Ohio on August 22, 1926 to the late Henry and Ruth Ely. He met his wife, Edela B. Bergman while stationed in Germany while he served in the US Army. His career in the Army included being stationed in Germany, Alaska and San Francisco, Calif. He retired in Virginia from the Army Map Service. He enjoyed reading history, building models of World War I airplanes and feeding the birds and squirrels Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Edela B. Ely; brother, Dorl Ely of Norwalk, Ohio. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bruce Stiver of Uniontown; grandchildren, Casey Ellwood of Jackson, Ohio and Michael Ellwood of Akron, Ohio; sister, Mary Ruth Patrick of Norwalk, Ohio; caregiver, Zita Patton; and many other relatives and friends. Calling hours are Thursday 10-11 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home, Hartville. Funeral services are in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Final resting place is Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors scheduled at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the charity of the donor's choice.
