Obituary

Olivia "Livy" Flounders passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by friends and family. She was a few days shy of 99.

Livy was born on October 18, 1926, in Youngstown Ohio, the daughter of Peter and Helen Opincar.  A 1944 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Livy was tagged in the high school annual as "A great heart is hers."

Livy told many stories about her childhood. She had a case of tuberculosis when young, and her doctor ordered a steady diet of milk to help her recover her health. Until she died, she hated milk.

Livy worked a variety of jobs in Lisbon but during the Korean War she moved to Washington, D.C. to work in a government office. Although she loved the capital city, she returned to Ohio when she married Dale Flounders.

They were married for nearly 60 years until he passed in 2008. One of the first things they did after their wedding was to buy a house in Canton, where she was to live for the next 70 plus years until her death.

Livy worked many jobs in Canton: at O'Neills, Hills, May Co. and Giant Eagle where she was a fixture promoting new products until she retired at the age of 92.  She loved to meet people; she wasn't shy and would talk to anyone as if they were old friends.

Fiercely independent, Livy took pride in her clean house and immaculate lawn, which was the envy of her neighbors (and a bane to her family as they were often pressed into service to pick up stray leaves or weeds) lol.

Livy also drove her 1989 Dodge Colt until four weeks before her death, often fending off unwanted offers to purchase the car.

She loved to dance and would occasionally enjoy a whiskey and water; she also loved her flower garden, although she constantly worried about rogue groundhogs.

Livy was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Elena, her husband, Dale, her stepbrother, Victor, and stepsister, Helen, as well as her son, Gregg.

She is survived by her grandson Joey (Audra) Flounders of East Canton, her granddaughter Heather (Keith) Wilson of Eastanollee Georgia, great-grandchildren Christian, J.R., Dillon, and Madyson as well as step-nephews Peter and David Wilson of Lisbon, and Michael Wilson of Philadelphia and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
