Novella "Polly"
Polinori Hartung
November 30, 1937 – November 30, 2023
The Stark County community has lost an avid philanthropist and longtime community volunteer. Novella (Polly) Polinori Hartung, of Canton, joined her beloved family and friends in Heaven on January 10, 2024. Born July 9, 1938, in Alliance to the late Ugo and Jennie (Aquilo) Polinori, Polly was a 1956 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Central Tech Institute in Los Angeles, CA from 1957-58. In 1960, she met David Hartung, whom she married in December of 1961.
She was known for being a devoted volunteer, dedicating her time to several local organizations including the Junior League of Canton, the Aultman Hospital Women's Board, the Symphony League Women's Committee, the Stark County Children's Aid Society, the Football Hall of Fame Festival Committee, the Red Cross, Garden Club, and the Aultman Compassionate Care Center. She was awarded the honors of Junior League Women of the Year, Aultman Hospital Golden Apple Award, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Award, just to name a few. Polly also worked in several local retail establishments drawing on her passion for fashion, home furnishings, gifts, and jewelry.
She loved spending time with family and friends, reading, keeping up on current events, and most of all, cooking and entertaining. Polly and David were long-time members of Brookside Country Club, and she was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Polly is preceded in death by her husband, David L. Hartung Sr. and siblings William (Bill) Howard Polinori and Mary Lyn Leasure. She is survived by her children David L. Hartung Jr. of Cincinnati, Elizabeth (Matthew) Cathlina of Libertyville, IL., grandchildren Gianna and Celia Cathlina, Maternal Aunt's, Gloria Giordano of Canton, and Linda (John) Canestraro of Louisville, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her granddaughters were the light of her life. Of all the roles she played throughout her time on this earth, "Nunu" to Gianna and Celia was by far her favorite. Polly will be missed by many but loved eternally.
