Norman Lewis M.D. died at age 93 on November 17, 2009. He was born May 14, 1916 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Sarah and David Lewis. He was the youngest of two boys. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, Geneva College, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He did his Internship at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his Residency in Surgery at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. He was Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1943 to 1946 and served with the 141st General Hospital, England. He did his Residency in OB-GYN at Mercy Hospital Canton, Ohio, under Ralph Ramsayer M.D. He was in private practice with Ralph Ramsayer M.D., W. A. Simmons M.D., S. Pascale M.D., Ned Grable M.D., B. Berger M.D., and Victor Bazzoli M.D. from 1949 till 2003. Dr. Lewis was on the Active Staff and former Chairman OB-GYN Staff Mercy and Timken- Mercy, as well as Courtesy Staff Aultman, and was inducted into the Society of St. Luke, Mercy Medical Center. He was Diplomat of American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fellow of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Fellow of American College of Surgeons. He was a Member of Stark County Medical Society, Ohio State Medical Society, and American Medical Society. He was a Member of Stark County Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Cleveland Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Association for Reproductive Medicine. He was also a Member of Trinity Lodge #710 F. & A.M. Masons, AASR Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine. Although he expressly did not want the number of babies that he delivered to be mentioned, his family felt that it should be noted that Dr. Lewis delivered a SIGNIFICANT number of babies in Canton. He is preceded in death by parents Sarah and David Lewis, his brother David, and also preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth. He is survived by daughter Elizabeth Ann Paynter and son-in-law John Michael Paynter, daughter Enid Patricia Mackie and son-in-law Sam A. Mackie, son David Norman Lewis, grandchildren Sean and Shannon Mackie, sister-in-law Marian Lewis, sister-in-law Vera Yanko, and other relatives and friends. Calling hours will be at the Arnold Funeral Home on Friday 6-8 PM and on Saturday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Monday 10-11 AM. Funeral services will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Monday 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Barbara Bond officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
