Nelson J. Burkholder, age 68 of North Canton passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2014. Nelson was born on December 23, 1945 in Freemont, Michigan to Lowell H. and Helen (Yoder) Burkholder. Nelson married Ginnie Horst on October 22, 1966 and graduated in 1972 from the University of Illinois with a BA in Elementary Education. He taught 5th and 6th grade at East Sparta Elementary School for 21 years before retiring due to Lewy Body Dementia. Nelson was an active member of First Mennonite Church in Canton. Nelson is survived by his wife Ginnie (Horst); son Eric Burkholder of Arlington, VA; daughter Amy Regier, son-in-law Joe Regier, two grandchildren Richard Regier and Cora June Regier all of Newton KS; eight siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6-8:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave. N. in Canton. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Hooley officiating.
