Nancy Bandow Hislop McPeek, age 73, of North Canton died December 10, 2012 of cancer. She is survived by husband Ken McPeek, three sons Scott, Kevin, and Brian, sister Connie West, and six grandchildren, Jacob, Chad, Kyleigh, Teddy, Maisie, and Tatum. Throughout her life, Nancy was tirelessly devoted to community service, particularly in Stark County. Her most recent positions include Chairperson of the Stark County Schools Business Advisory Council, Chairperson of Stark County Character Counts, member of the Stark State College Foundation Board of Directors, President of the Stark County District Library Foundation, member of the HW Hoover Foundation Board of Directors, President of the Stark County Prescription Assistance Network, Chairperson of the United Way of Greater Stark County Foundation, and member of the Stark County Family Council Board of Directors. Her past positions include President of the United Way of Stark County, member of the Arts in Stark Board of Directors, President of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, President of the Child and Adolescent Service Center Board, President of the Area Agency on Aging, member of the Kent State University Stark Campus Advisory Board, Chairperson of Stark Development Board Finance Corporation, Chairperson of the Stark County Mental Health Board, member of the Pegasus Farms Board of Directors, member of the Malone University Board of Directors, member of the American Red Cross Board, member of the Family Counseling Services Board, Chairperson of Leadership Stark County, President of the St. Marks Episcopal Day School, President of the Palace Theatre Board of Directors, and Trustee of the Stark County Humane Society. Among her many awards Nancy was named to the Stark County Women's Hall of Fame, the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, was Stark County Woman of the Year, National Association of Social Workers Volunteer of the Year, Rotary Community Volunteer of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow, Junior League Woman of the Year, and earned the United Way Gold Key Award. Born September 27, 1939 in Portland, OR, her family lived in many cities around the country until they settled outside of Philadelphia, PA. Nancy graduated from Abington High School in Jenkintown, PA in 1957, and then attended Cornell University, graduating in 1961 with a BA in Government. After college she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the Department of Health and Human Services, and where she met future husband Kenneth McPeek. They married in 1963 and eventually settled in Canton, OH in 1967, which was the 22nd time Nancy had moved cities by age 28. They never moved again, and raised their three sons in Canton. Nancy had a long career in insurance and banking, and retired as Assistant Vice President at Chase Bank. Nancy and Ken were avid travelers and together visited all 7 continents, 58 countries, all 50 states. A Memorial Service will be held on January 5, 2013 at 11:00am in the Johnson Center of Malone University 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
