Miriam Gertrude Wetzel, age 85, of Canton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday February 29, 2012 at the Aultman Compassionate Care Center. She was born in Canton on November 9, 1926 to the late Lee Richard and Elva Violet (Dickes) Warburton. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1944 and Mount Union College in 1948. She had been a 2nd grade teacher at Fairmount School and received a commendation for "Outstanding Teacher" in 1968. Miriam was an active member of the First Church of the Resurrection where she served as past president of the Emma Ziemmer Circle and member of the Flora Hudrich Circle. She served as Past Vice President for the Animal Protection League, volunteered and supported the Humane Society, served as past treasurer for Stark County Retired Teachers and was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman P. Wetzel, sister Shirley Lois (Leonard) Whaley, brother Rodney Lee (Linda) Warburton and grandson Justin Gaut. She is survived by her daughter Shelley Goodwin of Massillon, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, 13 great-great nieces and nephews, 2 great-great-great nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Arnold Funeral Home Canton and one half hour prior to services in the church Saturday (10:30-11:00 AM). Funeral services are Saturday 11:00 AM in the First Church of the resurrection with Rev. Dr. Bruce Mont officiating. Final resting place is Forest Hill Cemetery.
