Miriam Elizabeth Stonebraker Welch, age 76, of North Canton passed away on Monday evening November 13th at the Aultman Compassionate Care Center following a struggle with cancer. She was a loyal and dedicated wife to Dr. Paul (Wiley) Welch. They shared 52 years of marriage together. Born in Cincinnati, OH to the late Melvin and Dorothy (Leimburger) Stonebraker, she attended Walnut Hills High. Miriam graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Education where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. After college she taught elementary school in Reading, Ohio and Nashville, Tennessee. Miriam and Paul moved to Canton in 1972 for Paul to commence his career at Canton Orthopedics. Miriam held numerous leadership roles in many Canton community organizations, including the Women's Board of Aultman Hospital of which she held positions of Past President and Angel Auction Chair. She also served on the Board of Trustees for a number of years at Canton Country Day School where she served as Past President. She also was an active member of the Junior League of Stark County, Stark County Medical Society Auxiliary, the Canton Garden Club, Shared Blessings, and Daughters of the American Revolution Cincinnati Chapter. In addition to her parents, Miriam is preceded in death by her beloved son, David, who lost a battle with cancer in 2016 at the age of 44. Survivors include her loving husband , Paul; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Kapp of Pepper Pike, OH; daughter-in-law, Kathy Roberts (Welch) of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Jake and Katie Kapp, and Serena and Daniel Welch; brothers, David (Barbara) Stonebraker and Donald Stonebraker both of Cincinnati. Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Community Christian Church 210 N. Main St. N. Canton, OH. The family will receive friends following the service in church on Saturday. A private interment will be for the family.
