Milan P. Chovan, age 82, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday June 7, 2016. A loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Milan was a life-long resident of the Canton and North Canton area. He was born in Canton August 12, 1933 to John and Mary (Balaz) Chovan who both emigrated from Czechoslovakia. A 1951 graduate of Timken High School with a vocational concentration in drafting, Milan then joined The Hoover Company where he successfully completed his tool and die apprenticeship. He was a 45-year employee of The Hoover Company, retiring in 1996 as a Senior Process Manufacturing Engineer. Milan was an elder who faithfully served his local church congregation (United Church of God, an International Association) for 50 years. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and working on various projects around the home. Milan also enjoyed listening to polka music, playing his accordion, reading and talking about history, and staying current on U.S. and world events. With his family, he traveled widely throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, including two trips to visit his mother's family in the Slovak Republic. Milan is survived by his wife Nancie Lee (Albaugh) of Canton, daughter Paula McCrea of North Canton; son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Michelle Chovan of Jackson Township; grandchildren Melissa McCrea of Victoria, British Columbia, and Jason McCrea of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was preceded in death by brothers John and Mike Chovan. Calling hours are Monday 11:30 AM-1:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave., Canton where funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Randy Stiver and Associate Pastor John Miller officiating.
