IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mike
Berg
October 18, 1935 – April 24, 2014
Jon Michael "Mike" Berg, age 78, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday April 24, 2014. He was born in Canton, Ohio on October 18, 1935 to the late John Vernon and Verda (Williams) Berg. Michael attended school in Hartville and graduated from Manlius Academy in New York. He received his Bachelor's degree from Westminster College, then taught English and Spanish at Baltic High School and Stanton Academy before returning to Hartville to operate his family's store, Berg's. A kind and jovial man, Mike, after retiring from his family business, could be seen around town visiting and helping others. He always amazed friends by readily recalling names, birth dates, and route numbers anywhere in the USA. He followed statistics of the Cleveland Browns and Indians ballgames. More importantly, he was a member of the Hartville Church of the Brethren and East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren and was active singing in the choir and attending Sunday School Classes. He really enjoyed a good sermon and was passionate about music. One lifetime highlight was when he traveled around the world. Memberships included the Lake Township Historical Society where he had been a guest speaker. He is survived by his sister Rebecca "Becky" Berg and her friend Leonardo Monaco, twin nieces Melissa and Alexia Toma, and great-nephew Daniel all of Rome, Italy. He is also survived by his mother's brother's wife, Aunt Mary Lou Williams, as well as cousins on both sides, and a host of friends. Calling hours are 2 hours prior to the service Wednesday 12 noon - 2 PM at East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren. Services begin at 2 PM Wednesday with Pastor Vern Hostetler officiating. Final resting place is Mount Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren or Lake Township Historical Society.
