Dr. Michael B. Mock, M.D., age 71, of North Canton went home to be with the Lord on July 14th after a lengthy illness. A loving husband, father and grandfather as well as cherished friend and colleague. He will always be remembered as a truly genuine, caring and compassionate person. Doctor Mock had a distinguished career as an Internist and Cardiologist. After graduating with honors from the University of Rochester Medical School in 1962, he served in the Public Health Service in Bethesda, Maryland, where he received a commendation medal. He then returned to Ohio and became a founding member of the North Canton Medical Clinic Foundation. After eight years in private practice, he accepted the position of Chief of Cardiac Diseases Branch of the National Institutes of Health (Heart, Lung and Blood Institute). There he served for five years working on programs pioneering new treatment options for coronary artery disease. He spent the last eighteen years of his career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he was a Consultant in Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine and as a Professor Emeritus of Mayo Medical School. He was a member of The Chapel in Green and member and past president of Oakwood Country Club. Doctor Mock was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Michael B. & Florence (McMonagle) Mock. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters: Rita Tapp, Eleanor Markel, Mary Morrison, and brother: Robert Mock. Doctor Mock is survived by his wife of 51 years; Kathryn (Byrd) Mock. Daughter: Cheryl (Gregory) Owens of North Canton. Son: Michael Brett (Kathleen) Mock of Stow, Ohio. Grandchildren: Megan, Ashley and Matthew Mock, Zachary and Joshua Owens. Sisters: Florence Goad of Pensboro, WV, Emily (Doug) Sheets of Simi Valley, CA and Carolyn Ferguson (Sidney, Australia) brother: Leo (Helen) Mock of Canal Fulton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25th at 11 AM in the Chapel at Fir Hill's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eloy Pacheco officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. A private service for immediate family will be held at North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum at an earlier date.
