Merle R. Ake, age 70, of Minerva, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2016 while traveling out of state. He was born in Canton on May 2, 1946, graduated from East Canton High School and was a Navy Veteran. He retired from The Hoover Company and was a member of the McKinley Lodge No. 431 F & AM, Scottish Rite. He enjoyed the outdoors, photography, martial arts, and his family especially his grandson.

Preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Eileen (Bushong) Ake; he is survived by his wife Paulette; daughter and son-in-law Mike and Traci Tanksley; grandson Dawson Tanksley; sister Margie Pastore; and other relatives and friends.

Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave N, Canton. A Masonic service will be held Thursday 6:45 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held Friday 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Tanksley officiating. Final resting place is Mapleton Cemetery in East Canton. Memorials may be made to Stark County Humane Society.
