Obituary

Maurita A. (Mandy) Mahon, of Canton, passed away Friday, October 5, 2007 in Aultman Hospital. She was 80 years old. She was born in Louisville, Ohio on June 7, 1927 to the late Eustace and Matilda "Mae" (Begey) Paumier. Maurita was a 1945 graduate of Louisville High School and a 1948 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing. During WWII, she served in the Nurse Cadet Corp. Maurita began her nursing career in the Mercy Hospital emergency room where she met her husband, Joseph Richard Mahon, Sr., a Canton Policeman. Together the couple raised six children in the house they built together on 55th Street. Later, she returned to nursing, serving as an occupational health nurse for the Ford and Union Metal companies. Maurita attended St. Paul's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Peace. A volunteer for various groups and causes, she was active in the Stark County United Way Campaign. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and supporting her favorite sports teams, the Browns and the Indians. She treasured the luncheons she shared with her fellow retired Mercy nurse alumni. She especially loved visiting with her children: Jim and Debbie Mahon of Atlanta, GA, Joe and Rosemary Mahon of Canton, John and Pam Mahon of Los Angeles, Jerry "Buck" and Susie Mahon of Naples, FL, Jane and Kevin Massengill of Danville, CA, Jenny Mahon of Reno, NV; as well as the eleven grandchildren who brought her much laughter and joy: Kristopher (Wanda), Damian (Lauraleigh), Melissa and Danika Mahon, Daniel, Neale and Allison Mahon, Brittney and Mitch Mahon, Max and Stuart Massengill; and sharing fond memories with her siblings and their children, Joseph Paumier of East Canton, Bud (Jane) Paumier of Baltimore, OH, and Lorena Paumier of Canton. She goes now finally to be reunited with her husband Joseph, who preceded her in death on November 24, 1973, and her sister Rosemary Paumier. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday 10 AM in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Bishop celebrant. Mandy's final resting place is St. Louis Cemetery in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Care Center, Chapel Fund, 2308 Reno Dr., Louisville, OH 44641.
