Mattie Kempf Kanagy, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2022. Born on December 28,1935 in Middlefield, Ohio, she made her home in Hartville, Ohio. Mattie was a homemaker and opened her home as a babysitter to many children. She was later employed by the Hartville Kitchen Restaurant and the Kaufman Center. Mattie enjoyed spending time with her family and her "gang" of friends. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, quilting, and gardening.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Urie Kanagy, her parents, John and Melinda Kempf, her brothers, Jacob, William, Henry, Samuel, and Harvey, and her sisters, Saloma Leslein and Mary Miller. She is survived by her children, Kristina (Greg) Barton, David (Mikki) Kanagy, Beth (Ryan) Slabaugh, and Kathleen (Rolf) Kaegy, grandchildren, Lucas (Angela) Barton, Trevor (Alisha) Barton, Laura Barton, James (Hannah) Barton, Katherine Barton, Caleb (Aris) Slabaugh, Seth Slabaugh, Grant Slabaugh, Jackson Slabaugh, Samuel Kanagy, Michael Kanagy, Allison Kanagy, Felix Kaegy, Noelle Kaegy, Tristan Kaegy, Amelie Kaegy, and Charlotte Keagy, great-grandchildren, Noah, Cora, Eliza, Alaina, Addy, Julianna, Gianna, Maisie, and Penelope, a brother, Elmer (Susan) Kempf, and a sister, Elizabeth Miller.
Friends and family may call Monday, September 19 from 2-4 PM at Arnold Funeral Home, 504 W Maple St, Hartville, Ohio where the funeral service will be held at 4 PM. A graveside service will follow immediately at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
