IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary L.
Davis
November 3, 1935 – November 3, 2015
Mary L. Davis of Hartville, Ohio, passed away November 3, 2015, on her 80th birthday after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. She was born November 3, 1935, in the tiny town of Rowland in Morgan County, Ohio, to John and Charlotte Lawrence. Later moving to New Haven, West Virginia, she graduated from Wahama High School, where she was class valedictorian. She earned an associate degree from Ohio University, where she met the man who would be her husband for 60 years. They lived in Mississippi and Arizona while in the Air Force before settling in Hartville to grow a business and raise a family. When Mary wasn't tending to children, she was working in various roles for the family business, Buckeye Packaging Company in Marlboro, Ohio. Mary diligently volunteered her time throughout her life. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church of North Canton and before that, Hartville United Church of Christ, where she played organ and piano. She served on the board of directors of North Canton YMCA. She volunteered at Aultman Hospital in the transport department, was a member of Timken Mercy Service League, and played piano at Regency Nursing Home. She served on various committees at Faith UMC and assisted with the children in the church daycare. Mary stayed fit and active throughout her life and loved to walk, run, swim, ski, practice yoga, and play tennis and golf. She was a three-time Crest winner at Congress Lake Club. She was an avid reader and gardener, with a particular fondness for ginkgo trees and pulling weeds. She loved music and flowers and white wine. She was a devoted and generous friend and correspondent, always sending sweet cards and offering thoughtful gifts. She was beautiful and stylish and loved shopping for clothes and jewelry almost as much as she loved buying for others. She was a gracious hostess and a delightful guest. She loved traveling, particularly to New York City, where she attended many US Open matches. Mary was a wonderful, loving and most-beloved mother and grandmother. She was tremendously proud of her family and loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and performances. Her absolute favorite pastime was being with family and friends - relaxing with her husband, lunching with her sisters, taking her children and grandchildren on vacations, shopping trips or to cultural events, and above all, just spending time together and sharing in their lives. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Davis, whom she married on July 30, 1955; daughters Laurie (Robert) Brlas, and Deborah Davis (Stanley Wearden); and son John (Marie) Davis; sisters Jane (David) Cope and Helen (Michael) Cope; grandchildren Jeremy (Erin) Stoll, Rachel (Sean) Fuller, Henry and George Curtis, Ron, Colin and Jack Davis, Katherine, Emily and Joseph Wearden; and great-granddaughter Lily Stoll. Mary's family would like to gratefully thank the Aultman Hospice staff and the many wonderful home caregivers who cared for Mary with such warmth and compassion in the last years and months. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7:00 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home, 504 W. Maple St., Hartville. A memorial service will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 300 9th St NW, North Canton with Rev. Cara Stultz Costello officiating.
