Obituary

Mary Alisa (Christensen) Glew passed away August 24, 2014, due to complications of diabetes. Mary was born in Lista, Norway, on August 18, 1933 and recently celebrated her birthday with her family all present. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York and then moved to Salem, Ohio where she graduated from Salem High School in l950. Mary was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a service representative until 1956. In 1953, Mary met and married Louis W (Sticky) Glew. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on August 20, 2014. They resided in Canton where they raised their four children, Pamela, Patricia, Gary and Lisa. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Inga (Bentsen) Christensen; sister, Irene Brakus; brother; Walter Christensen; niece, Gina (Brakus) Lehn; and nephew, David Christensen. While Mary's primary role was that of mother and homemaker, she held a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. In addition to Ohio Bell, Mary was an office manager and dental assistant, an administrative assistant for Psychological and Family Consultants, and in later years, she worked and retired from the State of Ohio, Department of Liquor Control. May and Lou were active members of Simpson United Methodist Church for nearly fifty years. She loved her church and her friendships with many parishioners, and greatly enjoyed her membership in the Sarah Circle. She also served as President of the Stark County Lawyers Wives, Secretary of Timewasters Club, and was a member of the Ladies of North Canton Elks. Mary and Lou enjoyed travelling, seeing new places and visiting their many dear friends and family. Mary enjoyed bowling, darts, golfing, gardening, card playing, and bird watching, as well as spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her loving husband Louis (Bill) Glew, and her children, Pamela and her husband Brian Rollins; Patricia Glew; Gary and his wife Connie; and Lisa Heaton. Mary especially loved her time with her dear grandchildren Jessica and Bob Biddlestone; Lauren, Marisa and Alexa Glew; and Andrew, Mitchell and Graham Heaton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marian Christensen of Salem, Ohio; sister- and brother-in-law Shirley and John Weber of Naples, Florida; as well as nieces Sondra Tompkins, Julie Herr, Jodie Hembree, and Julie Weber, and nephews Brian Brakus, Rodney Christensen, and Bill Weber. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Simpson United Methodist Church with Rev. Cynthia E. Theobald officiating. Interment will be in Henry Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 5 to 8 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW.
