Mary L. Bowen, age 87, of North Canton, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 26, 2013. Mary was born in Bolivar to the late George and Mae (Hawk) Mays. Mary was a proud graduate of Capital University. After graduating she began her teaching career at East Palestine, she briefly taught at Perry Local and then Clearmount Elementary in North Canton. Mary finished her career retiring in 1989 from Northwood Elementary in North Canton. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Stark County Retired Teachers Association. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jack Bowen and a son, Edward Bowen. She is survived by her loving granddaughter, Kimberly (Mark) Campbell of East Canton, grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher and Emily Bowen of Tampa, Florida. The light of her life, great-grandson, Alexander Jack Campbell of East Canton. Daughter-in-laws: Martha Bowen of Tampa, Florida and Charlotte Bowen of Bolivar. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW. with Pastor Mark Sherwindt officiating. Friends may call on Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Fort Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar, Ohio.
