Evenchik, age 77, of Boynton Beach, FL, and formerly of Canton, OH, passed away Monday April 16, 2007 in Delray Beach, FL. Born on July 20, 1929 in Cleveland to the late Morris and Jean (Epstein) Evenchik, Martin attended Ohio University where he played Inter-Fraternity Baseball and Basketball. He was the owner, CEO and president of Leonard Insurance. Martin was a member of Temple Israel and served the Canton Jewish Community Center as past treasurer, secretary, vice-president, president (1974-76), advisor to AZA and JCC Youth Council, and as chairman of several committees including Physical Education Dept, Youth Activities, Finance, House Committee and Golden Gloves. In 1978 he was recipient of the JWB Leadership Award. For the Jewish Federation, he served on the board and was chairman of the Division Campaign. For Shaaray Torah Synagogue, he served on the board, on the Men's Club board, was chairman of Dedication Book 1060 and was advisor to USY. For Stark County Mental Health and Retardation, he served on the board and was finance, treasurer and president. For United Way, he headed major firms Division A of the Central Stark County campaign. When not on the greens at Arrowhead County Club, Martin served on the board, was former vice-president and president, chairman of Golf Committee, representative to the Cleveland District Golf Assoc., and Arrowhead's Club Golf Champion in 1967. His skill took him to the U.S.F. & G. Pro-Am New Orleans Golf Classic where he was runner up in 1982. He was a high average bowler who had a 3- game block 747, a high 3-game daybreak 222 and was a team member of Mid-West Champions, Chicago. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughters, Linda and Peter Kallin of PA, Diane and Dr. Arthur Lavin of Cleveland, Carole Evenchik and Valerie Wolff of St. Paul, MN, Susan and Tom Bainbridge of Dayton; step-daughter, Ellen and Jim Riegelman of San Diego, CA; son, Robert and Donna Fischgrund of Kansas City, KS; brothers, William and Bleema Evenchik, Alan and Sheila Evenchik all of Lorain, OH; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM in Temple Israel with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery.
