Martha W. Carey, age 84, of Canton, passed away Sunday surrounded by her loving family, in Oakhill Manor Care Center. Born in Meadville, PA to the late William and Dora (Hall) Blackmer. She was a secretary for the law firm of Kramer, Heling & Kramer. Martha retired from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Service where she was a testor. She had also worked as a pole worker for the Stark County Board of Elections for many years. She was an avid traveler of the world having visited six of the seven continents. For over 50 years Martha enjoyed making candy at Easter and other holidays, and giving it away. She also enjoyed making jellies. Her memberships included; First Wesleyan Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was past Secretary of the Church. Also a member of AARP, Mercy Senior Friends, Wells PTA, PERS Retirees, Lehman and Louisville High School Alumni Associations. She was a past member of Animal Protection Guild. In addition to her parents Martha was preceded in death by her son; Dennis J. in 1966 and husband James T. Carey in 1977, also preceded by sisters; Dorothy Catazaro, Linnia Singhaus, Olive Litner, Charlotte Gerwig and Flossie Stump and two half sisters; Hazel McCann and Helen Simmondinger. Martha is survived by a daughter Marcia A. (James E.) Trusty-Selig of Canton, sister; Iva King of Beach City, OH , brother; William Blackmer of Louisville, OH and special friend Flossie Lee of Canton. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of many friends and acquaintances whom she dearly cherished. No person was a stranger; Martha was a friend to all she met. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Laberto Galang, Sr. and the Staff of Oakhill Manor Care Center for their loving care given to Martha. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday in First Wesleyan Methodist Church with Rev. Jonathan Troyer officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St., W. and one hour prior to the service in church on Thursday.
