Obituary for Marjorie L. Alexander Finer Marjorie Finer died on October 14, 2009. She was born on July 5, 1924 in Cleveland, OH and was preceded in death by her parents Esther Libbie and Benjamin Alexander; her husband, Sanford Finer; her son Mitchell Louis Finer; five brothers (Earl, Eugene, Alvin, Robert and Morton) and one sister (Josephine Alexander Greenspun). Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Faye Finer of Lyndhurst, OH; her twin grandsons, Mitchell Elliott Finer and Carl Stuart Finer; her brother-in-law, Herman Davis, of Scottsdale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marge graduated from Glenville High School during World War II. She was a volunteer at Glenville Hospital and was a hostess at the Stag and Door Canteen. Marge worked for Crane Plumbing Supply Manufacturers, and was also a bookkeeper for the Kraft Foods Company. Marge married Sanford Finer on June 8, 1947. They moved to Alliance, OH where she was active in the Temple Sisterhood. When they moved to Youngstown, OH, Marge became active at Ohev Tzedek Synagogue and served as vice-president of its Sisterhood. After moving to Canton in 1973, she worked at Best Products (Miller Sales). Marge volunteered at Clarendon School by tutoring children. She also taught religious school, in both Youngstown and Canton, for a total of 25 years. Marge was an excellent cook, working for 9 years in the kosher kitchen at the Canton Jewish Community Center, and also served as the Mashgiach (kitchen supervisor). Employed by Jewish Family Services, she made meals daily for individuals who needed home delivered meals. As a young person, Marge was active in Young Judea, then Hadassah. While in Canton, she served as president of B'nai B'rith Women and chairman of Person to Person, a womans' singles group. She served on the Board of Shaaray Torah Sisterhood and was active in the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary. In 2005, Marge was given the Etta Gendler award by the Canton Jewish Community Center's Senior Adult Organization because of her volunteerism. During her retirement, Marge crocheted afghans to give to Jewish residents living in long term care facilities, and was honored last year for her service. Marge had a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. Marge will not only be missed by her family, but also by the many people whose lives she has touched. Graveside services will take place at Cornersburg Cemetery in Austintown, OH at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 16th. Cantor Bruce Braun of Shaaray Torah Synagogue in Canton and Rabbi Joel Berman of Ohev Tzedek in Youngstown will officiate. There will also be a memorial service at Shaaray Torah Synagogue on Wednesday, October 21st at 11:30am.
