Obituary

Marilyn Elise Burns Parylak, of Green, Ohio, passed peacefully on November 8, 2022 at the age of 84.  Marilyn was born on December 1, 1937 to Merton and Elizabeth (Manks) Burns in Nobleboro, Maine.  Marilyn moved to Southington, Connecticut as a child with her family and it was there while growing up that she met the love of her life, John Parylak.  It was during her high school years that John told Marilyn in a phone booth that he was going to marry her, and after high school, she married John in New York on January 8, 1956.  She lived around the country and internationally with John throughout his 20+ years career with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force before settling in San Antonio, Texas.  Marilyn spent many years working as a successful realtor, enjoyed playing music on the organ like her mother, and sharing her genealogy research with her extended family.  She also enjoyed line dancing and exercising at the church, sharing weekly lunches with her girlfriends upon retirement, and making many wonderful memories with her family and also with close friends who were like loving family to her in San Antonio.  In 2011, Marilyn and John moved to Ohio to be close to family.

Preceded in death by her parents and daughter Elizabeth, Marilyn leaves behind her husband of 66 years, John, two daughters, Deborah (Mike) Simpson of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and Rebecca (Darrell) Ruthrauff of Uniontown, Ohio, grandchildren Christopher Blacketer, Jonathan (Jessica) Brown and their son Jonathan of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio,  Matthew Simpson of Phenix City, Alabama, Seth (Rachel) Ruthrauff and their children Whitney and Leo of North Canton, Ohio, Andrew (Misty) Ruthrauff of Navarre Beach, Florida, Courtney (Dave) Kast and their daughter Camille of Columbus, Ohio, and Trevor (Rebekah) Ruthrauff of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  To honor Marilyn's memory, we are holding a life celebration during the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.  There will be a private ceremony to spread Marilyn's ashes at a favorite childhood spot in Damariscotta, Maine in Summer 2023 with family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Marilyn's memory.
