Obituary

Marilyn Elizabeth Grabowsky, age 76 of Canton died Wednesday afternoon. Born in Canton, to the late Margaret Evelyn Colmery and Carl Cable Steiner, she was raised Lutheran and was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in 1944. Lynn attended Mary Cannon Irwin's Kindergarten and Bellstone Grade School and lived most of her life with her family on 22nd street in the Ridgewood neighborhood. She was a 1949 graduate of Lehman High School where she was involved in high school activities, student government, thespian club, drama club yearbook staff, choir, and friendship club. In 1945 she was part of the homecoming court and in 1946 Lynn had the lead in the school play "Spring Green" and served as secretary of her class. Lynn then attended Stevens College in Columbia, MO for one year and transferred to Northwestern University in Illinois and chose primary education as her major. Lynn met her late husband Robert Grabowsky during college and often said "He never bought me flowers, he was very sweet and thoughtful, but not one for gifts. We used to go out and look at plumbing jobs on Sundays" Lynn joined Junior League of Canton in1954, she was also a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, had been active with the Red Cross, Aultman Hospital's Woman's Board, and Canton Line and Design Garden Club. Lynn is known for her talents as a great cook, playing the piano, she enjoyed tennis, bridge and gardening. She was also a wonderful wife, mother, and adored her grandchildren which was evident by the abundance of photographs in her home. In addition to her parents Lynn was preceded in death by a brother Donald Steiner and her loving husband Robert W. Grabowsky. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Dave and Laura Grabowsky of Canton, Tom and Lisa Grabowsky of Mission Hills, KA, son Mark Grabowsky of Chicago, IL. Daughter and son in law: Linda and Eric Wein of Birmingham, MI and daughter: Ann Grabowsky of Columbus, OH. Ten grandchildren: Kate, Tom Anna, Sarah, Robert, Annie, Katherine, Zachary, Madeline and Bobby. A memorial service for Marilyn will be Monday 11:00 A.M. in Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. David L. de Vries officiating. A private interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 12 to 3 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 710 Tuscarawas St., W. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Robert W. and Marilyn E. Grabowsky Charitable Fund c/o Stark Community Foundation 220 Market Ave., S. Canton, OH 44702.
